Point of Sale (POS) Glossary
An X Report is a detailed history of the transactions for a point of sale register up until that time. In most point of sale systems, X Reports do not trigger any action and are merely reading and displaying or printing information.
X Reports detail a lot of helpful data and may include sales so far, returns, times the register was opened without sales, the payment method of the transactions, and more. POS systems might automatically generate X reports at specific intervals, such as every hour, for a sales threshold, or prearranged times.
At the end of the shift, a Z Report can be run that contains information for the entire day. In many cases, the act of running a Z Report may trigger closing out the POS register.
